HISTORY OF MORRIS 970 MINI COOPER S REG No: PRX 815B
The vehicle was previously owned by Mr. John Witton who used it from 1964 to 1971 both on the road and for racing, before becoming primarily a group one/two race car, raced on nearly every race circuit during the 60's. Mr. Witton was employed by a national newspaper which ensured many connections within the racing community, he was a member of the BARC racing club and I have the trophies and placards to authenticate this. The car was a regular at Silverstone and it is known to have raced abroad on at least three occasions. In it's early days it went to Abington for the engine to be stripped down and later on it was taken to Speedwell of London to be put on the rolling road where it achieved 108bhp. As you will be able to tell that for this period it was very high spec. It still has the original engine and gearbox, with the original speedo with genuine mileague. In 1971 the car was destined to be destroyed, but was instead put into dry storage until I purchased it for restoration in 2000.
